History of the School

Since 1954

Gangapuri Siksha Sadan began in 1954 in Purba Putiary, a quiet neighbourhood near New Tollygunge in South Kolkata. It started small and grew into a full Higher Secondary school that has taught thousands of students.

The school's yellow building, built around an open courtyard, and its large playground are familiar to generations of students. In 2014 the school marked its Diamond Jubilee, 60 years of teaching, with a celebration by students, teachers and alumni.

“A school is more than its classrooms. It is the place where a child learns to think, to question and to care for others.”

Dear students and guardians, welcome to Gangapuri Siksha Sadan. For over seventy years this school has served the children of our neighbourhood. Our teachers work hard to make sure every student, whatever their background, gets a fair chance to succeed.

We believe that education is not only about marks. It is about building good habits, curiosity and a sense of responsibility. We invite guardians to work with us, because a child does best when home and school work together.
